Momento Mori
Drawing skeletons on things that should not have skeletons on them has been a mainstay of mine for more than five years now. And frankly, I can’t even say why. It would be awesome to say that it's an intentional symbolism thing, a good (popular) street artist is usually commenting on popular culture. I could lie and say that it explores themes of urban decay and death, adrenaline-junkie style art to highlight the fleeting nature of life, memento mori, etc. but in all honesty it just makes me feel good to draw skeletons. Frankly it's a childish obsession. I just like to doodle.
This one in particular was painted with 3 different colours of high-pressure acrylic gloss spray paint on a concrete wall under an hour, eight storeys off the ground in a famous urbex location just out from Newcastle, the only real preplanning was deciding colours and “wow, I'm going to paint it up there!” The tail, claws, and extra eyes are improvised. And if I'm lucky it'll be a couple weeks before someone else comes and paints over it. Hopefully someone else thinks it's cool and snaps a picture before then.
