SURG 25 Hour Radio Marathon

SURG 25 Hour Radio Marathon

Three students plan radio marathon, say they'll beat Richard Glover's 24 Hour record and shave eyebrows for a good cause.

Triple J’s Dr Karl, 702 presenter and comedian Adam Spencer, TEDx presenter and legal academic Dr Justine Rogers, and The Chaser’s Chas Licciardello are just some of the guests who will join Sydney University’s radio station SURG FM on October 13th and 14th, 2015 for a 25 Hour Marathon Charity Broadcast to raise money for youth mental health services.

The live broadcast will take place as part of our Verge Festival. Three intrepid student presenters, Max Schintler, Alexandra Mildenhall and Alex Tighe have volunteered to take to the air for 25 hours of non-stop student radio to raise money for headspace youth mental health centres. We're proud to support this event, that will run from 1pm on October 13 until 2pm on October 14 on campus at Jane Foss Russell Plaza.

Over the course of the 25 hours, our presenters will interview guests including comedians, media personalities, academics, researchers, musicians and feature music and live performances from some of Sydney’s finest indie talent. The event is also an important opportunity to stimulate discussion about issues facing young Australians today.

As our presenters raise more and more funds for headspace, they will take on increasingly absurd and entertaining dares to be performed live on air, including limb-waxing, eyebrow shaving and the hoisting of a SURG FM flag over the University of Sydney’s iconic Quadrangle.

All funds raised will go towards providing free or low cost frontline mental health support for young Australians aged 12 to 25. Headspace Camperdown spokesperson said: “It is so great to see young people like the SurgFM team supporting their peers with this event.” Tune in to the digital station online to listen.
