The Dodgy Sweater Party, held last week on Wednesday 13 August, saw Manning Bar packed to capacity as over 1000 Sydney students proudly donned their daggiest, dodgiest jumpers for the start-of-semester event. Party-goers, feeling rad after their successful Vinnies trip, kicked on well into the evening taking full advantage of a well-stocked bar and busting dance moves daggier than their outfits.

Prior to the event, Manning Bar promo staff were out in full force giving out free dodgy sweaters for all prospective partygoers. USU provided racks of dodgy pullovers for the always-full photobooth and for the copious selfies which flooded social media that night and beyond. It seems our friends in the Northern Hemisphere disappointed with having only one occasion to wear their cheesy Christmas sweaters have started a universal party theme, now popular with American college kids and Sydney Uni students alike.

But what is it about dodgy knits that made everyone happy to ditch their usual party get up and favour comfortable over style? Cathy, a first year, said University of Sydney thought the dodgy sweater theme was innovative and exciting: “it’s a cool theme; I’ve never been to a dodgy sweater party before.” Tara, an international student from Bangkok, thought the idea was fun, and nothing like she’s ever been to at home, taking advantage of the racks of sweaters on offer "it's very cool that there are all of these sweaters for me to choose from!"

As the live band and killer DJ finished their sets for the night and everyone had enjoyed getting down to Iggy Azalea’s ‘Fancy’ a little too much, guests were left mopping their sweaty frow and reaching for the H2O to re-hydrate.

We’re so proud we could provide a memorable opportunity for students to get together and party in their dodgiest knitted numbers.
