BREAKING GOSS: Here are Your Board Candidates For 2019

By Pulp Goss

The six candidates that have been elected to the USU board are, in no particular order:

Ruolin Ma (Independent)

Nick Forbutt (NLS)

Benny Shen (Independent)

Zizheng Bai (Independent)

Eve Wang (Independent)

Cady Brown (Independent)

4 of the 6 candidates are international students, continuing a trend that was sparked in 2016 with the election of Koko Kong. Though they all ran as independents, Eve and Benny both are both affiliated with Panda, and had a number of high-profile Panda figures campaigning for them including the SRC’s President and General Secretary, Jacky He and Yuxuan Yang. Ruolin Ma is affiliated with rival faction Advance, and Cady Brown is a member of the Moderate Liberals.

Of the six candidates elected, only one passed our quiz: Nick Forbutt. Cady and Eve tied bottom last with 23%, and Benny and Ruolin only achieved 31%. Zizheng Bai did not participate in our quiz, however achieved just 28% in the Honi Soit quiz. The lack of USU knowledge and experience amongst this year’s candidates will certainly make for an interesting two years.

More to come.
