we’ve walked here before,

leaves torn astray,

our mouths open, cascade

catching morning’s dew, 

forgotten, asleep

in the misty green,

 

our heads crowned,

evergreen and proud,

making night envious 

of our glamour and design,

 

bodies radiant,

unpicked, unfettered,

smooth, scarred, marked,

wholly, beautifully our own,

 

those worn-out slurs,

crumble, 

burnt out, delirious,

afraid and estranged to

watch us weave our tale:

the female gaze
